It was a big deal for the P-Rice camp April 12th- along with the whole radio station board and anyone who is involved with music. As April 12th marked the annual Spring radio concert sponsored and hosted by Westfield’s 89.5fm WSKB.
P-Rice had 5 solid hip-hop acts rising from the undergrounds of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Philly. The setlist consisted of acts: ATI (East Hampton, Westfield State hip-hop crew), Brittany Koff & Flash Gordon (Philly raised lyricist & drum machinest/producer), E.S.P. (Up & Coming emcee from South Bridge/West Springfield), MassILLusion (Westfield’s own lyrical conscience emcee), and Rapture (Connecticut’s rising hip-hop star). All acts put on an outstanding show- as well as P-Rice who performed right along his peer rising stars.
Every year Westfield State University radio station 89.5fm WSKB put on an all-day concert from 12pm to 7pm. Many talented acts and bands come through to perform, sell merchandise and many do it for the love and fun of it. Majority of the bands lead from punk rock acts to experimental- with a lack of hip-hop. BUT! This year on APRIL 12TH the board of hip-hop director, myself, P-Rice will be hosting one of the biggest underground hip-hop shows Westfield State University has ever put on. Originally planning to have artists from New Jersey all the way to the Southern Cali- the hip-hop show caused much controversy and excitement. Many artists wanted to come out from Mo the General to Johnny Collarossi; but many of the acts that are going to be performing are straight from the underground music scenes of Massachusetts. Such acts consist of up and coming emcee: E.S.P. (who plans releasing his debut Weapon of Mass Production this Spring- it’ll be available for sale at the show), MassILLusions, Sean Byrne (who has opened up for acts like 3 6 Mafia), Koffidential, KR the MC,and Westfield State’s own crew ATI- along with myself P-Rice.
What’s good y’all? We apologize for our inconsistence with updating our blog- but let all lost hope and sorrows go away because now the P-Rice Show is back with a vengeance and harder than ever. If you missed it this week, on 89.5fm WSKB Wednesday Nights 6-8pm (eastern), P-Rice had upcoming artist E.S.P. and his posse come through to show and prove some of their finest skills…spitting fire into the mic! With his peeps Sean Byrne, MassILLusions, and M-A-L the posse puts it down live and on the spot for this freestyle cypher. This was recorded and shot in the station so you’ll only be able to hear the acapellas of the artist (but on radio) you could hear the instrumentals that were being played..such instrumentals spun were by Pete Rock to Miilkbone. Enjoy!
